According to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare,
land use classification for the agricultural year 2018-19 was approximately as follows:
– Forest: ~22%
– Net Area Sown: ~46%
– Fallow Lands: ~8.5%
– Land put to Non-agricultural Uses: ~8.6%
– Barren and Unculturable Land: ~5.4%
– Permanent Pastures and Other Grazing Lands: ~3.4%
– Culturable Waste Land: ~4.6%
– Current Fallow: ~1.7%

Culturable Waste Land] - Fallow Land = Agricultural land that is not used for growing crops for a period of time to allow the soil to recover
